Yesterday, April 15, 2009, I was able to attend one of the hundreds of tea parties that were going on across America. The one I attended was in Charleston, WV. Granted, we are a smaller state, but there was still a very respectable turn out for a nasty, cold, rainy day. I wish the weather had not been so bad, so that I could have some pictures of the day.

I am amazed as I listen to and watch the news today and see the reporting of the tea parties in the news. First, the news channels seem to be intentionally underestimating the numbers of people who were in attendance. Our own local news reported that “at least 500 people” came to the Charleston Tea Party. I have been blessed to speak in front of over 350 people at one time. I know what 500 people looks like. There were at least 1000 people present, and I would guess in the neighborhood of 1500-2000. Interestingly enough, when it is liberals protesting, they always overestimate. Remember the Million Man March, that didn’t even get close to that number, but was reported as being very close, if not over? Yeah…double standard.

And, then there is CNN. Journalists must be so proud to see reporting such as this. Quite frankly, this woman gives even journalists a bad name!

That is journalism? Come on now. This reporter was not reporting, she was intentionally trying to be combative with a protester. She didn’t want to know what he was doing there, she wanted to argue with him about all the great benefits he gets from Obama being president. If this network is not in the pocket of the Obama Administration, then I sure don’t know who would be!

Notice, this reporter completely misrepresented what was happening. And, the anchors in the news room did the same thing. They acted like this was some kind of violent upheaval. They acted like it was not “family viewing” (which, incidentally, was a slap at the man who had his daughter at the rally). So, it is not “family viewing” to see conservatives voice their opinion, but we have to watch unending coverage of protests like the “Million Man March”.

So, if you are getting your news from CNN, let me set you straight. The Tea Parties were not violent. They were not “anti-government” as CNN reported. They were, in fact, designed to bring government back to where it is supposed to be. Speakers encouraged attendees to write to their congressmen and women, to write to senators to try and get them to affect the change that is necessary. The most violent proposal made was to vote out those who would not listen to the will of the people. Folks, that is not “anti-American”, it is purely American! Funny, it was truly American when it was the left trying to get Bush voted out, but it is Anti-American when it is conservatives trying to get the liberals voted out. Again, see the double standard here? One observation: Conservatives never try to stop liberals from voicing their opinions, or exercising their rights under the constitution. But, Liberals are constantly trying to do just that–as was clearly shown in the CNN piece.

One final observation before I close today. Conservatives are so much more creative than liberals. I wish I had pictures of the great signs that were made up at the Charleston Tea Party. Obviously these folks were able to think for themselves, and creatively voice their opinions and concerns. Liberals have moveon.org print signs for them. They don’t have to think. They don’t have to articulate. They just read the script. It is refreshing being of a mind to think and act for oneself.
