Shooting From the Right

The Anointed One’s First Press Conference!

By | Feb 9, 2009

With bated breath, we have all been sitting, waiting on the nearly ex-cathedra proclamations that were sure to come.  I’m sure the die hard libs are not disappointed, but then they were impressed with the inauguration speech too.  I guess when you are blinded by the spotlights, the stars shine bright in your eyes.  Personally, I was not impressed at all.  We had 57 minutes of a man who could do little more than whine about the previous administration, and what they left behind, as well as blasting the Republicans in Congress for actually standing up against his ridiculously inflated spending bill.

I am amazed at the duplicity of this President.  During the campaign, any mention of needing a strong president that could and would fight against terrorism was attacked as being “alarmist” or “scare tactics.”  But, when elected this same man takes up the mantra of the democrats telling us that we are all going to go bankrupt if this “stimulus plan” is not passed today.  Do you think that would classify as scare tactics?  Yeah, I think so.  Especially considering that the current recession is nothing like the one from the 1930s that President Obama is so fond of referring to.  In fact, the current recession is not anything like what President Reagan inherited in the earl 80s.  I’m curious…did Reagan continually repeat a condemnation of the administration that went before him for wrecking the economy?  I doubt it.

If Obama really wanted to do something about the economy, he would follow Reagan’s plan.  He cut taxes!  He didn’t say that the only way out was to rely upon the government.  I don’t know how many times I have heard over the last couple of days that the private sector cannot possibly do anything to help us get out of this recession.  That is insane.  The mentality in Washington right now is that we should just turn everything over to the government, give them more of our money, and let them create jobs for us.  The problem is, if you let the government create the jobs, then you have government jobs.  The government does not produce anything, and so there is nothing to sell to make a profit of any kind.  So, you have a bunch of jobs that do nothing significant for the economy in the long run!  The only way that government jobs will stimulate the economy is if the government takes over the production of goods or services.  That, my friends, is full blown socialism.  And that is where we are headed if we let the mentality continue to rule the day!  Besides, we all know what a good job the government does when it takes over anything.  I know one thing, I’m going to start selling those nifty $500 hammers when that day comes!

Another thing that I found interesting with the press conference tonight was how fake it was.  It was completely staged, with President Obama having prescreened who was allowed to speak and when.  It would not surprise me if he had the gist of the questions as well.  It is amazing to me that the press, though they crucified Bush, still had a good repoir with him.  With Obama, the conference was like another power move.  He was going to ensure that they stayed in their place.  I know he has to control the conference, and Bush did that well.  But, Obama just wasn’t going to let any real tough questions be asked.  By the way, I would like for the press to be consistent.  I want to see them bash Obama for his complete inablity to put a sentence together with any eloquence.  Bush was an idiot because he stumbled over words.  What is Obama’s excuse?  He could have cut that 57 minute press conference down to 30 minutes if he could cut out just half of the “umms.”  I guess it is ok for him, since he is under so much pressure…

I am so tired of the arrogance of this president as well.  When Republicans held the presidency and both houses of Congress, all we heard was that they had to work together with the Democrats, and that they had to be bipartisan.  Now, Obama speaks condescendingly toward the Republicans, assuring them that they will be consulted.  That is a joke.  That was made clear by the vote on the spending bill in the House.  there was a reason that not a single Republican voted for it.  For Obama to act like they were being dishonest by not voting for the bill is dishonest on his part!  That bill had nothing to do with them.  If the Democrats are so confident in this bill, why are they complaining that the House Republicans won’t vote for it?  They are not needed, so what does it matter?  They simply don’t want to take the blame alone when this bloated bill fails to actually stimulate the economy.

Face it folks, this bill is not about stimulating the economy.  It is about getting all of the liberal programs paid for through scare tactics, so that it does not have to be done under the general budget, where it should be.  If they can scare the American people into accepting it now, it will be much easier than later.  And so, we are going to be strapped with a trillion dollars more in government spending.  Thanks.  That’ll work to whittle down that National Debt!

Look at the bright side:  at least now we have a president who can say “nuclear” correctly.  He can’t stop nations from having “nuclear bombs”, but he can at least say it right.  I feel much better now…

Let the Socialism Begin…errr…Continue…

By | Feb 4, 2009

Listening to the news on the radio today, you’d think that people in America are completely ignorant. There are those who are clamoring for this new bailout, thinking that this will save the economy. Yet, many of these same people seem to be shocked that President Obama would now think that he has the right to step in and impose governmental regulations on those companies that would accept money from the government bailout. What exactly did you think would happen? Do you really think that the government was just going to hand money over to these floundering companies and not try to influence what they are able to do? Folks, you are seeing the beginning of the demise of the free enterprise system. Watch now as the socialistic model steps into its place.

We saw the same thing when it came to auto makers.  Once the government stepped in, they had the right to start implementing further regulations that will drive the manufacturing costs up.  But, don’t worry, since the government will be a big part of the industry, I am sure that the cost to us as consumers will not be affected…yeah right.

Now, with the bailouts that are currently proposed, Obama feels that he has the right to step in and limit the salaries of the executives.  $500,000 is to be the “cap” for all executives of companies that accept this money.  Now, that is a lot of money to me…but it is not a lot of money for an executive of a major company.  So, the bottom line is, these companies who accepted government money will not be able to hold an executive that is worth anything, as they will go to a company that will pay them “market value” rather than “Obama value.”  So, struggling companies will then lose any hope of attracting executives that may be able to get them out of the problems they now face, leading to more struggles.  They will end up with sub-par execs, who will basically perform at a sub-par level, causing the companies to be sub-par companies.  The bailout will ensure the downfall of most of these types of companies.  Only in a case where there is some company loyalty for the execs will there be any kind of success.

The bottom line is that this type of bailout is not good for a free market economy.  I am no economist, and I am sure there are some ins and outs that I don’t understand.  However, allowing the government to interfere with free enterprise, controlling salaries, and implementing restrictions that are not helpful to the market, will destroy more companies than it will help.  In fact, if we are going to be a free market society, then the idea of a bailout should be scrapped completely.  If a company cannot make it, then they should be forced out of business.  Some say, “But these companies are too big to fail!”  Wrong.  if they were “too big to fail” then they would have sound business practices that would ensure that they continue successfully.  Loans from the government could be a possibility, but those loans would have to be just that.  They would have to be paid back, and the government would not be able to impose ridiculous regulations.

We are heading further down the socialistic path than most people would like to think.  And, in the next 4 years, we will go further than most will want to go.  And, before all the liberals start blasting me for going against this bailout and not the “Bush Bailout”, realize I was against that one too! I am so glad that the house republicans stood up against this bill.  We will see if the senate republicans have the guts to stand up for conservative principles too!

Lookin’ for Change?

By | Jan 23, 2009

It is amazing to me that the rhetoric used by George Bush was bashed by the media, and yet the exact same rhetoric coming from the mouth of Barack Obama is upheld as wonderful, and representative of change.  What is really sad is that it took John Stewart of the Daily Show on Comedy Central to be able to point out that Obama is getting by with the same rhetoric that Bush was blasted for:

All the fundamental principles are there…but the “comedy commentator” actually hit the nail on the head. They don’t think Obama has the ability, or the guts to be able to follow through. When President Bush spoke to countries that would threaten us, the world paid attention. It doesn’t look like that will be the case under the new administration…

The Historic Day Has Passed…

By | Jan 21, 2009

If I heard the phrase “historic day” or “historic event” one more time, I think my head would have exploded.  I could not even watch Sports Center without hearing those words.  Of course it was an historic day, and an historic event.  Aren’t all presidential inaugurations historic events?  I should hope so!  However, the press meant much more than that with this phrase.  They meant there was something particularly special about the inauguration of Barack Obama as the president of the United States.  But, what in their minds made this such an historic event?  Let’s consider it for a moment.

Was it the policies that President Obama promised to inact? Was it the policies that he campaigned on throughout the campaigning process (the longest in the history of the country, by the way)?  No, it was not that, because there really wasn’t a lot of policy discussed.  We were promised “Change” and told that “Change was coming” and that it was “Change that you can believe in”, but we were never really told much about that change.  Essentially, we were told that we should just trust him, unquestioningly, and accept whatever “change” he might bring.  After all, as the media hammered so much over the last 2 years, any change from Bush must be for the better.  That is why, incidentally, the media aided the Obama Campaign in trying to make it appear that McCain was too much like President Bush.

Was it the smart people and associates that he surrounded himself with? No, I don’t think that is it either, seeing as it was a constant struggle for the media to cover up the associations that were detrimental to Obama, and yet reflected his very core principles.  They could not reveal that he had a hugely racist minister in his church, who was his spiritual mentor.  After all, Obama was trying to act as if he were a Christian.  They could not reveal that his friends were terrorists, who wanted to take over the country and get rid of any one who refused to accept thier socialist way of thinking.  Yet, men like William Ayers will have an impact on things like educational policy in this country over the next 4 years.  The list of poor associates is really too long to address in detail, but these couple of examples certainly makes the point.  He has tried to change this image within the last year by tossing all of his associates under the bus, and surrounding himself with Bill Clinton’s people.

Was it his past experiences, and successes? No, I don’t think that it is it, seeing as he has very little past experience, and has no real successes.  His major claim to fame has been to help a few kids in Chicago get summer jobs.  Every time Obama has gained a position in his political career, he has immediately started running for the next step.  In the process of that, he has done nothing in the jobs he was elected to do.  And yet 50 million + Americans voted for him.  He has proven nothing in his whole career, but we have “hope” that he will do something now as president of the United States.

If it was not any of thes foundationally solid principles that cause the media and so many Americans to faun over President Obama, then what is it?  Basically, it is a combination of two elements:  Race and Liberal Idealism.

I know, I will be labled a racist because I even suggest that race has a part to play in this “Obamamania”, but honest people will see that it is a definite factor.  Consider that throughout both the primary season, and the general campaign, racism accusations abounded.  That’s right, I was a racist because I didn’t vote for him in the primary.  And then I was told that I was a racist if I voted for McCain over Obama in the general election.  If that is not using race to try and control the outcome of the election, I don’t know what is!  I saw numerous news reports that accused whites of being racist in certain states becasue demographically they voted 60%-70% for McCain, but the same reports did not even mention that 95%+ of blacks voted for Obama.  Those that did mention the high percentage of blacks voting for Obama specifically, spun it in such a way as to say what a great thing it was to have such a great turn out.   The truth of the matter is, there were tons of people that showed up to vote for Obama, not because of his policies, but becasue of the color of his skin.  Politically speaking, he is not that much different than the other candidates marched out by the Democratic party over the last 3 elections, and yet he got a far greater turn out, most notably among non-white demographics.

But, color is not the only element in the election of Obama, and why these media personalities were head over heels for his inauguration ceremonies yesterday.  It also has to do with his liberal idealism.  You see, color alone does not earn the media’s respect.  President Bush had more minorities in his cabinet than any other president, including the “first black president”, Bill Clinton.  Yet, the media refused to give respect to those who served under a Republican president.  Colin Powell, for example, was shown little respect, and by many, was labled as a sell out for working in a Republican administration.  Condoleezza Rice was treated much the same way.  Think of how Clarence Thomas was treated in the media and among liberal america when he was nominated for Supreme Court Justice.  Each of these men and women went through extreme scrutiny before being able to take their positions.  The media did all they could to help the liberals in Washington keep these folks from getting their positions.  However, when Obama came on the scene, spouting the same liberal talking points, he was given a complete pass on the scrutiny.  We are still waiting for some realistic examination of the credentials, background and associates of this man.

Yesterday, you could flip through as many news channels as you wanted to, and the message was the same.  Everyone was commenting on the color of President Obama’s skin–not the character of his character.  On Monday, I found it interesting that this country celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  On that day, there were hundreds of interviews with people of color who proclaimed that the election of a “black man” was the fulfillment of the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr.  I tend to disagree to some extent.  I think he dreamed of a day when a black man could be president, but his dream included the idea that he could be president without reference to the color of his skin.  That is right, he saw a day when a black man could be president becasue of the “content of his character.”  We are not yet to Martin Luther King’s dream…we are only half way there.  I saw nothing about this man’s character that explains his election…though I hope that he develops that while in office.  He will certainly have to make some changes from how he has carried himself in times past.

A Part of the Conservative Underground…

By | Jan 20, 2009

Well, it is now official.  Barack Obama has been sworn in as our new president.  This is a day that has been dreaded by conservatives everywhere.  I have been amazed at how duplicitous the media, not to mention much of the American public have been throughout this “historic” election and inauguration.  I am sure that it will certainly continue.

It is amazing to me how many liberals have been calling for “uniting with Obama.”  They keep telling us that it is our American, and patriotic duty to stand behind him and basically agree with all that he decides to do or say.  I do notice that they don’t call upon their own example of uniting behind President Bush.  That is because they fought tooth and nail with everything that he did or said, even when it really benefited their agenda.  You see, one of the differences between liberals and conservatives is that conservatives do not try to silence the liberal voice.  We do not try to stop liberals from expressing their point of view, and standing in opposition to our thoughts and policies.  Liberals, on the other hand, are threatened by conservative thought, and therefor try to put an end to it.  One quick example:  Nancy Pelosi’s new rules i nthe congress, making it essentially impossible to get a true tax cut passed.  We certainly can’t have a tax cut.  Hmmmm…I wonder if that tells us where Mr. Obama really stands on tax cuts?  This is a move to shut conservative policy on taxes out of the congress completely!

We as conservatives know that dissenting opinions are necessary in a free state.  That explains why we have not, and do not, seek to silence voices that speak in opposition to our beliefs.  But, the principle certainly does not change now that a far left liberal in the sitting president.  We have the right (and will continue to exercise) to speak as the opposition to policies that will not be good for this country.  When this administration proposes and/or supports policy that will detrimental to the wellbeing of the country, we as conservatives will be there to challenge him.  You can tell me that my obligation is to goose step in line with the administration, but it just is not true!

One thing I will be interested to see over the next 3 or 4 months is how much the Obama administration will drop from their campaigning days.  It has already started.  They campaigned on big changes.  Remember the slogans?   Change we can believe in!  Yes We Can!  Well, come to find out, there wasn’t going to be that much change, and the truth is, “No they can’t”, at least for many things.  They have already been working diligently to lower all expectations.  We will see many of the far left supporters (who got Mr. Obama elected) start to become diheartened by his actual actions as president.  They will be upset that he is really incapable of getting all that he promised done.  There are many who already have shown their disapproval for his attempted move toward the center.  How dare he nominate any Repuplicans to serve in his cabinet?

I hope that the reports of his move back toward the center are true.  At least that will keep him from enacting policy that will be hard to stomach.  I suspect, however, that there will be some things taht he will seek to get enacted that will forever put him at odds with true conservatives.  If he is able to get the Freedom of Choice Act passed, there is no way he can unite with true conservatives.  If he is able to get Card Checks passed for the unions, he will have crossed a bridge that will alienate him with conservatives.  Not only that, but he will set free enterprise and workplace safety back 50 years.

I don’t want this to sound like all “doom and gloom.”  I hope that the policies of this administration will be such that they do not cause irreparable harm for our country.  I hope that they are able to turn this economy around, and make our country the prosperous place that it once was.  I hope that he will do a better job of bridging race relations in this country.  There is much good that could come during this administration.  But, if Obama chooses to be a “far left” president, then it will cause nothing but further division.  Many accused President Bush of being “far right,” but those of us that are on the “far right” know that he really was not, especially in fiscal matters.  He was centrist in a lot of ways, with conservative values shining through on some topics (like stem cell research and abortion).  It will be interesting to see just what happens over the next 4 (or 8 ) years!

Goodby Mr. President…

By | Jan 15, 2009

Tonight, George W. Bush said goodbye in his last address to the nation.  I am one of the silent masses who will miss this president.  I know that the media paints him as an imbecile, and act as if he is not smart enough to tie his own shoes, but they did that to the greatest president of this generation (and perhaps any generation) when they did it to Ronald Reagan.  I know that President Bush has made mistakes–he is man enough to admit as much himself.  But, the one thing that should not be contested is that he made this nation safer.  Again, listening to the media will certainly not bring you to that conclusion, but how many attacks have been successful on our soil in the last 7 years?

One thing I will miss with the changing of the guard next week is the amount of class that is currently in the White House.  Love him or hate him, you have to be dishonest to say that this president is lacking in class.  And you cannot possibly accuse the current first lady of lacking in class.  Just watching tonight’s speech reminded me of just how much class Mr. Bush has.  He could have taken the opportunity to take shots at everyone who had mis-treated him in the last 8 years…but he didn’t.  In fact, the only thing that was anything close to a “shot” was pointing out that Iraq has been a success (even though he admitted mistakes in the process), and he pointed out that there have been no further terrorist attacks on American soil.

Mr. Bush was plain about one thing tonight:  he did things that he thought were right for the country.  He did what he thought was right in every case.  He didn’t test the wind to see what was popular.  He didn’t run a poll before every decision.  He was the leader of the free world, and he acted like it.  He surrounded himself with smart people, and trusted their council.  Again, don’t misunderstand:  I know he made mistakes.  All presidents do.  But, it has been nice to have a president who makes decisions based on what he thinks is right, not based on what will make the most people happy.  It is quite humorous to me that just weeks ago an Iraqi journalist threw shoes at our president.  Think about that.  It was because of President Bush that the journalist had the ability to take such an action.  He gave the Iraqi people the freedom to do what they want to do, even if that means acting as ignorant as the media in the US!

Watch the transition of power between the Bush White House and the Obama White House.  I predict that the transition will be smooth and graceful.  I’m sure that you all remember the transition of power last time around.  Yeah, somewhat less than graceful for the departing crew.

There is about to be a change in this country.  Perhaps our new president will somehow learn to act with class and dignity miraculously before next Tuesday.  I doubt it.  But, he will have at least four years to develop it.  Instead of ranting against Mr. Bush, Mr. Obama should take a page from his book.  I know it is far too much to hope that he will lean toward conservatism, but he certainly could learn much about the poise and dignity of the presidency from our current president.

So, I say goodbye to President George W. Bush.  Thanks for your service, and thank you for bringing dignity back to the White House, even if it has only been for a short period of time…

Illinois Governor Sells Obama’s Senate Seat to Highest Bidder

By | Dec 9, 2008

Ok, maybe he hasn’t actually sold the seat yet, but don’t blame him for trying!  After all, it appears that he has worked hard to build a political career on all the stuff he can get for his coruption.  He certainly isn’t going to give something as valuable as a Senate Seat away for free.  Makes me wonder what Obama did to get that seat in the first place.  Sorry, I know we shouldn’t judge Obama by his associates.  We learned that in the election.  Don’t worry though, I am sure there is still room under the bus for Governor Blagojevic.  I haven’t heard yet, but I’m sure he can thump along right next to “Reverend” Wright, and the plethora of other “friends” that bit the dust during the campaign.

Seriously folks, when is there going to be uproar in this country over the corruption among democrats?  If a republican had done this type of thing, the rage would be unfathonable.  Anyone connected in any way would be targeted:  what did they know, when did they know it, what part did they play, etc.  But, I doubt that will be the case here.  I am sure there will be no questioning of the rest of the Democrats that have benefited from this corruption.

This is another case of “Chicago Politics”, which we were told was non-existent during the campaign.  I find it particularly interesting that this story was not broken until the election was over, especially considering the fact that Blagojevich has been under investigation for corruption charges since 2002.  Hmmm….Presidential Democratic candidate hailing from Chicago, but huge political corruption charges centered in Chicago are not exposed until after the election.  We got Joe the Plumber exposed.  We got “Troopergate” exposed.  And yet we learn nothing about William Ayers.  We hear nothing about this scandal.  We have no investigation into Obama’s Citizenship questions.  Yeah, the media is not biased.  No wonder something like 70% of people believed they were in the tank for Obama.

The good news for democrats is that Blagojevich’s sentence will only be about 20 years.  That means that he will be available to run for president after Obama’s second term (with parole).  When republicans do something illegal, they are forced out of office (as well they should be).  When democrats do something illegal, they are often given a promotion…Gotta’ love the good ol’ USA.

Third Presidential Debate

By | Oct 15, 2008

Note: I wrote this for a more informal blog, and thus you will find that I didn’t use proper capitalization, punctuation or perhaps even spelling. I wanted to post the same ideas here, but didn’t want to go to all the trouble of changing my informal style from that blog to the more formal style of this one. Please forgive this laziness on my part for the following post!

I just got done watching the debate, and i know that you all are waiting with bated breath for my intriguing, insightful, and dead on accurate analysis of it…so here goes…

btw, that first paragraph was written tongue in cheek. you public school folks might have to look that up. just kidding, i was public schooled.

Seriously, I watched the debate and i think that we finally are getting to see some differences. I knew they existed all along, but they have finally been clearly articulated. Here are just a few of the key points that were spoken tonight, that I think are very important. You won’t find this stuff on your local news…they think Obama can really walk on water, and Joe Biden can get people walking out of wheel chairs…

1. McCain is not Bush, and will not govern like Bush. It is amazing to me that McCain’s “association” with Bush is fair game in Obama’s mind, but Obama’s “associations” with Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, and Acorn are not important at all. Let’s see: Bush: president of the US, most powerful man in the world. Ayers: unrepentant terrorist, wishes he could do more bombings. Wright: Racist “pastor”, immoral political extremist. ACORN: deeply involved in illegal voter fraud, heavy democratic ties, direct contributions by the obama campaign. Even if Obama was right about the whole McCain=Bush thing, I think i’ll take that over the obama connections. if you think that it is unfair to connect obama to these nut cases, it is just as wrong to connect mccain to bush–the evidence is just as strong. if you take the mccain/bush connection away, obama has nothing to run on. so, it is not surprising that the media is bound and determined to play up the mccain/bush connections, and do all they can to shoot down the obama connections. i’m glad i’m not a friend of obama…there’s not much room left under the bus that he keeps tossing his friends under!

2. Health care. neither candidate has a particularly good plan for revamping health care, but obama’s plan is just like everything else he spoke about tonight: “I’m gonna fix this problem by taking more of your money, and spending it on health care!” Ok, that’s not a quote, but it certainly is the idea. McCain’s plan, at least the part i read and think i understand, is much better, because it will bring more choices to the market of health care. you can get coverage wherever you want to get it, and will not be forced to accept your employer’s health care offering. I wish he would drop the whole, “we’re going to tax your benefits” line, as it is a turn off to anyone who is a real conservative. Just a question to those who think the government taking over health care is a good thing (which is what obama will do): what program has the government ever taken over and succeeded with? Just recently, they took over the congressional cafeteria, and failed miserably (bad food, higher costs, running in the red). Yeah, that’s the type of people i want making my health care choices.

3. More More More government control. Obama says that Joe the plumber will not have to pay any penalty for not providing his employees with the national health care plan that he is going to insist on. what he didn’t say was that it is the government, and solely the government that dictates whether a business is a “small business” or a “medium sized business” or a “large business”. So, what that means is that Joe can buy his plumber business, and then hope to not make more than $250,000 just so mr. obama doesn’t take a higher percentage of his money. but, if he does, and decides to expand, he can start to hire a few folks into his business. now, joe in his first year might just be one of those “small businesses”, so he doesn’t have to provide the health insurance required of those greedy big business companies, like the evil oil moguls. But, what if joe accidentally crosses the line, and doesn’t realize that Big Brother now thinks he is a “big business”. Now he gets hit with a fine! Come on obama, be honest with us! that coy smile is i’m sure cute to the ladies, but it doesn’t answer the question!

4. Spend, spend, spend. This has already been mentioned, but since it was a key part of Obama’s stand in the debate, it warrants being mentioned again. His solution to the educational woes in this country are that we should spend more money on it. The very question posed to him stated that we spend more on education than any nation on earth, and yet our results fall way behind most of the other countries. A rational person would thus conclude that spending more money is not the solution! however, that was obama’s only solution. Remember, folks, it is the democrats that are in the pocket of the teachers’ unions (that is not a slam on any one that may be a teacher, or in a teacher’s union that may be reading this post), so it isn’t going to do any good to throw in more money. McCain actually has a much better plan when it comes to education. Vouchers that give parents a choice is a smart way to go, and will cause schools to improve in order to compete. wow, there’s that whole free market thing again!

5. Abortion. I know that all the libs are trying to steer us away from this one. but, as a conservative, this will be an issue in every election that i vote in. Obama, for all his talk about cutting down the number of abortions in america, has done absolutely nothing to that end. I know what you are thinking: Republicans don’t either. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. They appoint judges that are constitutionalists (and regardless of what the media tells you, the right to an abortion just isn’t in the constitution. now, in the lib constitution, its right after “separation of church and state”.) Remember President Bush stopping a nasty piece of legislation that stopped partial birth abortion? don’t tell me he didn’t do anything! Obama, on the other hand voted against a bill that would force doctors to provide medical treatment to a baby who was born following a botched abortion. he had an excuse, but it is important to note that the bill passed shortly after he left the illinois senate for the national senate. now his bad choices are made on a much larger scale!

6. Judges. McCain made it clear that he would appoint judges that were strict constitutionalists. he pointed out that he voted for judges that were presented by dem presidents, because he thought that presidential elections had consequences. if the people voted for a dem, as long as the the person was judicially qualified, McCain voted for whomever the president chose. Obama on the other hand voted only for judges that fit his ideological qualifications. Thus, he voted against Roberts, who had to be one of the most qualified men ever presented. but, roberts didn’t think Roe V. Wade was a good decision. that’s good enough for obama, he voted “no”. He said he didn’t use a “litmus test”, but the facts show otherwise. I wish McCain had asked a follow up, asking why he voted against Roberts!

7. Ayers, Wright and ACORN. I know i already tackled this, but I want to make the point that any one of these is not necessarily the problem. I don’t think obama is a domestic terrorist. I don’t think he REALLY (ok, maybe just a little bit) wants there to be voter fraud, and I would like to believe (though it is becoming more difficult) that he is not a racist. However, having so many of these types of issues makes me question his JUDGMENT! he makes really poor choices. He made poor choices about where to start his political career (and, yes, it was with william ayers, no matter how many times he tries to deny it). He made really poor choices about where he was going to attend church, sitting and listening to the racist political spew from Wright (i wonder if he ever heard the bible used?). He made really poor choices in who to give $800,000 to when choosing a community organization to “get out the vote”. What makes us think that he is suddenly going to have good judgment? If you have the judgment of obama, i have some great property for sale, and i can give you a great price on it!

Folks, I know McCain is far from perfect, and I am still not convinced i will vote for him, or for anyone for that matter. But there is a difference between him and obama. Obama will take more from us in taxes, and will continue to spend more than we can possibly pay. McCain probably won’t be a whole lot better in the long run when it comes to spending, so that’s a toss up. But, at least there is the hope that he won’t take more from me.

If you think obama really isn’t going to raise your taxes (yes, i’m talking to all you middle class folks out there too), then you are nuts! you can’t spend more money on health care, more money on education, and more money on all the other stuff he cited tonight and not raise taxes. by the way, i believe obama must be a product of our failed education system. he keeps telling us that 95% of americans will get a tax cut. That is amazing, considering only 62% of americans actually pay taxes. must be that new math again…

feel free to comment, but at least realize before you do that humor is dispersed throughout this post.

Bail Out Fails…Thank Goodness!

By | Sep 29, 2008

I am tired of all the partisan politics when it comes to the financial sector of America.  If you haven’t figured it out yet, Congress is playing games with YOUR money!  Basically, what we see here is that if you are big enough, and fail, the government is going to step in and bail you out.  Nancy Pelosi got up and made what basically came out to be a partisan campaign speech just before the vote, and that caused some of the Republicans to step up and do what was right–vote against the bail out plan!

The Democrats can sit back and claim that they have no hand in this problem till they are blue in the face, but that still won’t absolve them of their involvement.  There is no doubt that this problem is deeply seeded, going back “at least a decade” as President Bush said in his speech at the end of last week.  Almost everyone has pointed out that the problem has come because of the housing crisis, and the fact that too many people simply cannot pay their mortgages.  The democrats have been vocal, blaming this problem on a lack of oversight in businessess like Freddie Mac and Fannie May.  But, the problem has not been a lack of oversight, but the requirements (imposed by the Carter and Clinton administrations) placed upon them.  You see, the democrats decided that it was not fair that only people who could actually pay for a house should be allowed to buy a house.  So, they forced financial institutions to make high risk loans to people who could not provide proof that they could pay the loan.  Freddie Mac and Fannie May then started buying up these loans to boost their own books, claiming that they held these great assets, when in fact the people paying on those assets weren’t going to be able to pay.

These bad loans are one of the main causes of the problem.  But, the problem has been compounded by the companies granting these loans going just as far as they can go (since they are trusting that they will be bailed out by the government).  There have been far too many loans that have been granted on Adjustible Rate terms that have skyrocked due to the current financial situations.  These companies allowed people to take out more money in loans than they can afford to pay–they buy more house than they can afford.  People have been enticed by “interest only loans”, where they don’t have to pay anything but the interest on a house for several years.  These, along with other poor lending/borrowing practices have ensured taht we end up where we are today.

So, what is the solution?  Let the market correct!  That sounds harsh, I am sure, but those who have been involved in these poor business practices don’t deserve to be bailed out.  The government needs to get out of the market, and let it run itself.  If that had been the case, companies that made decisions like those listed above would simply go out of business (and rightfully so) instead of standing in line to get bailed out by the government.  The government needs to stop placing requirements on lending companies that go against good business practices (like forcing companies to loan to low income families).  Let private investors step in and buy up the same faltering resources that the government will be bying out, and let them make the profit on them instead of the government.  Both parties claim that if this is successful they will see to it that the money gets back to the tax payers…yeah right.  When the markets rebound the government will be holding a huge amount of assets and make a huge amount of money which (if history is any indication with both parties) will simply fund more socialist programs.

Government, get out of our business!

Hillary’s Life Flashes Before Her Eyes…McCain Picks Sarah Palin For VEEP

By | Aug 29, 2008

I was afraid that I was going to have to come out today, and write about the ho-hum speech given by Obama last night.  Oh, I know that Olberman and Matthews nearly wet their pants, but real analysts saw that Obama did nothing to try and unite this country.  He only showed that he plans to raise taxes, kill the economy and make our country far less safe.  He is, after all, a democrat.

I was saved from extensive analysis of the same ol’ same ol’ from Obama by a truly maverick pick for VP from John McCain.  After floating names like Ridge and Lieberman, I was afraid it was going to be a “safe” pick like Romney.  But, I am convinced that he has made the right pick to win in November.  Sarah Palin should secure two major demographics, which McCain may have been a bit weak in:  Women and Conservatives.  Palin seems to sure up the conservative side of the ticket, being staunchly anti-abortion, pro-gun rights, and very family oriented.  And, obviously, she is a woman.  Remember all the women who claimed that they were going to vote for Hillary because they would vote for a woman, regardless of her politics?  I guess we will see.  This pick certainly will appeal to the disgruntled Hillary supporters, who were already toying with the idea of voting for McCain.

Now to the Subject line of this post.  Can you imagine how Hillary is seeing her life pass before her eyes today?  Think about it.  McCain is most likely going to be a one term president (unless he can muster the physical strength of the likes of Ronald Reagan (though he can’t claim the conservative record)).  If they accomplish anything in the next 4 years, then Mrs. Palin will be on the 2012 ticket at the top of the Republican ticket.  Everything that Hillary wanted will be passed over, and fulfilled in another woman!

This pick certainly is an “in your face” pick against Obama.  He refused to pick Hillary, who got 18 MILLION VOTES in the primary.  I guess he thinks he can win without them!  Palin clearly appealed to the Hillary voters in her speech today, and I think the McCain/Palin ticket will certainly draw a substantial amount of the Hillary supporters.

I have not been thrilled with McCain at the top of the Republican ticket, but I am getting more comfortable with him.  It is starting to line up to be an interesting election!
